While candidate Mike Pence was promoting the idea that Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server was a criminal act, he was running Indiana governmental business through his private AOL account. (This was not illegal in Indiana.) VP Pence sees no similarity between his use of private email and Clinton's, however.

As Pence stepped away as governor, he hired hired outside counsel to review his AOL emails and transfer any involving public business to the state."
